The Transformative Power of the Arts in Everyday Life

In today’s fast-paced digital world, youth face unprecedented social challenges. The rise of social media and digital communication has revolutionized how teens interact, but not without consequences. While these platforms offer connectivity, they have also led to increased mental health concerns, diminished interpersonal communication skills, and strained social relationships.
Amid these challenges, the arts emerge as a powerful counterbalance. Creative activities such as drawing, ceramics, painting, music, and dance serve as invaluable outlets for self-expression, allowing young people to articulate their emotions, fears, and aspirations in ways words often cannot. The arts build bridges, fostering connection, collaboration, and a sense of belonging.
During the pandemic, we saw how art could unify and heal. Communities worldwide found solace in collective creative activities, from singing on balconies to crafting public art displays. These moments alleviated stress and sparked a sense of solidarity, proving the arts’ profound impact on mental health and well-being.
At Laureate College, we champion the integration of the arts as a cornerstone of holistic education. By prioritizing creativity, critical thinking, and character building, we empower students to thrive in a dynamic world. Through our partnership with Oak Heights Art Studios, we offer year-round Master Classes, workshops, and ongoing art and music programs designed to nurture self-expression, innovation, and collaboration.
This season, we’re excited to present a Pottery Demo and Hands-On Workshop led by Master Ceramist Mary Goh. With her guidance, participants will explore the beauty of functional and decorative pottery while discovering their creative potential.
