YORKTON The trail for high school curling teams has continued for the current season.
All four of the Yorkton Regional High School teams advanced from Districts to Regionals.
Both boys teams went on to play in Estevan, the mixed team went to Lampman, and the girls were in Wawota.
Unfortunately, the girls led by Coach Barb Woytas and skipped by Grace Woytas, did not advance past Wawota.
Neither did the YRHS second team coached by Nate Bewcyk and skipped by Payton Breitkreuz.
However, after Regionals, the Mixed team qualified for SHSAA Provincials in Unity.
The YRHS first team also moved on to the Boys Provincials being held in Wynyard.
Boys in Wynyard
The Kaden Pihach rink got off to a bit of a slow start, losing their first game to Avonlea 8 -5. Every game from there on would be an elimination game.
Next up was Melfort who they beat 7 – 1.
Their second game of last chance curling was against Balgonie, the defending champs. The score there was 6 – 3 for Yorkton.
On Saturday, in the quarterfinals they played Outlook and triumphed 7 – 3.
In the semis they had a rematch against Avonlea. Revenge was theirs as they won 9- 4.
After playing four games of last chance curling, they finally ran out of steam in the finals losing 4 – 3 to host Wynyard.
Members of the team were: Skip – Kaden Pihach, Third – Jens Vincent, Second – Gage Keller, and Lead – Tony Dubriel, with Coach Nate Bewcyk.
Mixed in Unity
The Mara Vogel rink got off to a good start beating Swift Current 6 – 5, and kept rolling through the second game, beating Unity 5 – 4.
Saturday morning the YRHS team beat Saskatoon Tommy Douglas 5 – 4.
In Gold Medal game, the team faltered losing a rematch with Swift Current 5 -3.
