Yorkton Crossing holds annual Olympics

Whist, shuffleboard, horse shoes, bean bag baseball and floor curling among competitions.

YORKTON – Residents of Aspira Yorkton Crossing participated in the 9th Annual Yorkton Crossing Olympics held Feb. 20-23.

The event had 34 residents participate across five different contests ranging from Whist, shuffleboard, horse shoes, bean bag baseball and floor curling and some of the games had competitors as old as 98.

"Usually we do this all in one day but this year I decided to spread it out," said Bonnie Rohatynsky, Resident Engagement Manager in an interview with Yorkton This Week.

Opening ceremonies for the event saw Extravadance Studio perform for residents, as well as a torch bearing ceremony.

Rohatynsky said that residents who didn't participate in the events came out to enjoy the games being played and cheer on the participants.

"We had a full house at every event we had going on," said Rohatynsky.

Rohatynsky said events like this are important for the residents.

"You're getting out. You're meeting people," said Rohatynsky, adding, "none of these things you needed to know how to do except maybe play Whist."
