Yorkton Cross Country Ski Club back on trails

Adult lessons are drop in, with a $5 fee for members, and $10 for non members.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Cross Country Ski Club is back on the trails, even on frosty January weekends.

In fact, youth lessons were held at Deer Park Golf Course Saturday, and adult lessons were held Sunday.

In the case of youth lessons, they begin once there is enough snow – generally November and run through to March, explained Club representative Ray Bailey, who added they have upwards of 30 youth involved.

“Most kids in the program get pretty consistent (in attending sessions),” he said.

In terms of overall membership, Bailey said the club anticipates more than 100 by season’s end, adding a number of skiers do not become active until the Christmas season is well past and weather moderates a little.

For anyone interested in cross country skiing but are without equipment, the club has you covered.

Seasonal rentals can be arranged for youth and for parents who are skiing along with youth during lessons.

It’s a very family friendly atmosphere.

Bailey said that is the strength of cross country skiing as an activity.

“It’s one of the activities to do together as a family,” he said, adding they usually have a few parents attending youth classes “to support the lessons.”

Adult lessons are drop in, with a $5 fee for members, and $10 for non members.

Ski rentals are $10/day, $30/week, or $120 month.
