YORKTON - Yorkton Council had previously approved the city proceed with tendering for a new air conditioning unit for City Hall, and the results of that tender came before this Monday’s regular meeting of council.

Four bids were received.

The bid from Ainsworth Inc. was deemed to be best value as it was complete, was the lowest price, and had the best equipment lead time, detailed a report circulated Monday.

It was also proposed that the project be included in the pre-allocated facilities portion of the 2026 Capital Budget, but that the work take place in 2025.

The need for the unit was highlighted at the October meeting.

“In the early summer of 2024, facility maintenance staff began having difficulty with the operation of the air conditioner unit at City Hall. One of the two compressors failed. It is difficult for the unit keep up at times with only one compressor operational especially on really warm days,” explained René Richard, Director of Engineering and Asset Management with the city at that time.

Also, the entire air conditioning unit was over 30 years old and nearing the end of its useful life.

The unit made it through the 2024 summer with only one compressor, however the other compressor and the unit itself could go at any time, noted Richard.

Council unanimously supported accepting the Ainsworth tender for $144,900 plus applicable taxes.
