YORKTON - The Yorkton Film Festival has announced that in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, they have partnered with the Yorkton Public Library, the City of Yorkton, and the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan for the next Open Cinema screening of First Contact.

First Contact documents the journey of six Canadians, all with strong opinions about Indigenous People, as they confront their preconceived notions during a 28-day journey deep into Indigenous communities across the country.

The screening and discussion will be held March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Yorkton Public Library.

“The Yorkton Film Festival is proud to screen First Contact and to host the discussion of the stories being highlighted in the film,” said Executive Director Randy Goulden in a release.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win two tickets and be guests of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan at the 2025 Festival Gala, Saturday, May 24.

OPEN Cinema regulars will have a chance to collect the next participation sticker for their passports at this event. Collect four out of the five possible screening stickers to have your passport be eligible to win two tickets to the 2025 Lobsterfest event at the Yorkton Film Festival!

OPEN Cinema is presented free of charge and open to the public.
