Road race raises $20,468.02 for Yorkton hospital

Top fundraiser brought in $10,002.55 for the organization.

YORKTON –  Up to 170 registered runners and walkers participated in the Health Foundation's Charity Road Race Aug. 20.

The $20,468.02 raised will assist in the purchase of an echocardiogram for the Yorkton Regional Hospital.

“We felt this was a great turn-out,” said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of the Health Foundation.

This event is about helping people introduce a little fitness to their lifestyle. That is why we hold the Learn to Run Clinics starting in May; we want to provide people the opportunity to learn to run with others. At the same, we are a fundraising organization so it’s important to us that all of our events raise funds to buy equipment for the Yorkton Hospital.

We are very fortunate to have strong sponsorship from the business community, in particular our presenting sponsor Legacy Co-op. Sponsorship covers the cost of the Road Race so that all of the registration fees and pledges collected by the runners can be used to help purchase medical equipment.

“We are very grateful as well for Harvest Meats and CrossFit Function for generously paying the registration fees for employees or members — they encouraged people to participate and made it easy for them to do so," said Fisher.

We are very pleased with the results of the Charity Road Race. Every year we set goals for the year, and we successfully met our goals this year; these were:

To provide an opportunity for people to introduce a little fitness into their lives by putting on free running clinics from May to August;

To hold a fun and well organized Charity Road Race that everyone from the beginning runner to the competitive runner can participate in;

To raise funds for the purchase of medical equipment that will provide an improved or new service to the residents of this region.
