YORKTON – The bikes were on the track at Millstone Raceway the weekend of Aug. 26–27 for a two-day training event.
The Yorkton Motocross Club featured a MotoX school with instruction from World Motocross Champ, Justyn McCabe.
"Everything I do is technical skills on the bike and specific to motocross," said McCabe in an interview with Yorkton This Week, adding, "I've coached 50-year-old adults and I've coached four-year-old kids — I'm not sure who the oldest was at our school this round but we did have a five-year-old there ... age varies and skill level varies."
McCabe said the two-day training event saw over 20 people attend and that there were promising competitors among the local talent.
"This past weekend there were some locals there — I think three possibly four — that are in a championship fight and their last one or two rounds are coming up these next couple weekends," said McCabe, adding, "they were so pumped about what they got out of the weekend because they're jacked about what's going to happen these next two weekends."
McCabe, who has competed in motocross on an international stage, said he does the educational seminars out of his passion for the sport.
"I've raced in World Championships around the world. I've raced world championships in the US. I did the Canadian Nationals at a pro level and now it's just time for me to step back and give back and allow these kids to have a little bit more skill on the bike — feel a little safer — maybe pull a few championships off," said McCabe.
"One of the kids that I train — I brought him along — and it was just a real good give-back for him to be able to work with these young kids too," said McCabe, "He wants to give back and be a part of that ... by him coming out and helping out these young kids and actually having to not only visually see what is going on with these kids, he can now go do it."
"He wants to give back and be a part of that," said McCabe, "sometimes you learn by actually teaching as opposed to being taught."
