YORKTON – McDonald's celebrated the grand opening of its newest location at 207 Broadway Street East with a VIP event on Dec. 4.
"McDonald's has been looking for a second place to open in the last few years but finally it's happening ... I think we picked the best spot to be in Yorkton," said Vishal Sukhadiya, Owner/Operator of McDonald's in Yorkton and Melville.
Sukhadiya said all three McDonald's locations in the city will remain and revealed plans for potential future expansion.
"The plan is to keep all three of them and maybe down the road in the next seven to eight years a fourth one will be coming," said Sukhadiya.
To commemorate the new opening, McDonald's has launched a charitable initiative.
"We are selling an $8 meal coupon. The meal is generally between $12 and $15 but we are selling it for $8. All $8 will go to the charity," explained Sukhadiya.
With 1500 coupons available, the goal is to raise $12,000, which will be divided equally among The Soup Haven, Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbours, BGC Yorkton and Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan.
"Our charity partners are also helping us to sell those coupons. I think it's a great initiative and everybody is loving it. We've almost sold all of them. We only have a few coupons left to go through," Said Sukhadiya.
The new location's grand opening is set for Dec. 6 at 5 a.m., and it will operate 24 hours a day. Coupons can be redeemed at both Yorkton and Melville McDonald's location and purchased at McDonald's locations as well as through SIGN, BGC Yorkton and The Soup Haven.
Lorraine Oranchuk, CEO of BGC Yorkton, highlighted the response to the fundraiser.
"We're working on our second 100 at the club," said Oranchuk, noting that her organization has already sold 150 coupons, "we had to get our second 100 because they were just flying."
