Maulers go winless in Swift Current

The Maulers will host the Saskatoon Blazers at the Canora Civic Centre on Dec. 9 and again at Westland Arena Dec. 10.

The Yorkton Maulers faced off in against the Swift Current Legionnaires in back-to-back matches at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex in Swift Current.

The first game kicked off with Legionnaires’ Parker Rondeau scoring the first goal of the match in the opening period. Rondeau’s goal was assisted by teammates Jace Egland and Sam Kirwan, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

The second period saw both teams battling it out on the ice, but neither team was able to break through the other’s defense, resulting in a scoreless period.

The third period brought more action, with the Legionnaires’ Porter Nickason scoring a goal, assisted by Griffin Darby and Connor Rieger. However, the Maulers weren’t ready to give up just yet. Tanner Wiens managed to score a goal for the Maulers, assisted by Mikale Budz and Lucas Hvidston, bringing some hope to the team.

Despite the Maulers’ best efforts, the Legionnaires emerged victorious with a 2–1 win.

In net for the Maulers was Wyatt Bouvier, who faced a total of 34 shots, saving 32 of them. On the other side, Berney Weston was in net for the Legionnaires, saving 26 shots, contributing to the Legionnaires’ victory.

In game two of the weekend matches, the Legionnaires took an early lead in the first period with Jace Egland and Sam Kirwan both finding the back of the net. Egland’s goal was set up by assists from Kirwan and Parker Rondeau, while Kirwan’s goal was facilitated by Rondeau and Egland. However, the Maulers were not far behind, with Boston Melnyk scoring a goal, assisted by Aidan Torry, keeping the competition fierce.

The second period saw the Legionnaires extend their lead with Parker Rondeau scoring a goal, assisted by Egland and Kirwan. The Maulers, however, were not ready to back down.

The third period brought more excitement as Brady Simpson of the Maulers scored a goal, assisted by Sam Cristo, narrowing the gap. However, the Legionnaires responded swiftly with Egland scoring on an empty net, assisted by Rondeau and Kirwan, sealing the victory for the Legionnaires.

In terms of goaltending, Wyatt Bouvier of the Maulers faced 27 shots, blocking 24 of them. On the other side, Jacob Morris, netminder for the Legionnaires, saved 27 shots, contributing significantly to the Legionnaires’ victory.
