YORKTON – Joe Beeverz Yorkton is joining forces with Canada Beef for the third annual Burger It Forward campaign.
The campaign aims to tackle food insecurity across the nation. For the month of Feb. Joe Beeverz will feature their popular 204 burger, with proceeds benefiting Food Banks Canada.
"We're selling our 204 burger for Burger It Forward," said Rebekah Bailey, manager at Joe Beeverz Yorkton, in an interview with Â鶹ÊÓƵ.ca
Each participating restaurant will feature a select burger for the Burger It Forward campaign. For every campaign-featured burger purchase, Canada Beef will donate the equivalent of one meal to Food Banks Canada, up to a maximum of 20,000 meals. Additionally, provincial cattle associations and partners will make ground beef or cash donations to regional food banks.
"We always like to support local community initiatives," said Bailey.
The 204 burger, known for its hearty and unique ingredients, includes two beef patties, two three-cheese perogies, sautéed onions, candied bacon, honey dill sauce and pepper jack cheese.
"All of our burgers are really popular but our 204 burger is one of those burgers that's a little bit more out there. It's kind of fun and exciting to try," said Bailey, adding, "people get intimidated by it because it is a bigger burger."
According to a release from Canada Beef, nearly 250 restaurants across the country will participate in this year's campaign, aimed at relieving the growing food insecurity in Canada. The national campaign supports local restaurants while also raising funds for food banks regionally and nationally.
In Saskatchewan alone, 35 restaurants and eateries are participating, nearly double the number of participants from last year. Food Banks Canada reported that food bank use has almost doubled in five years, with nearly one in four Canadians now living in food-insecure households.
