The 2023 Fall Registration Night saw in increase in participants post-pandemic.

YORKTON — The city held its 2023 Fall Registration Night Sept. 6 at the Gallagher Centre.

The event had 40 community groups representing sport, culture and recreation in attendance.

"It is the opportunity for community groups of sport, culture and recreation to come out and to showcase their programs and activities they have going on for the upcoming fall and winter season," said Julia Schofer, Recreation Co-ordinator with the City of Yorkton, in an interview with Yorkton This Week.

Schofer said the 40 tables in attendace were a "huge increase" in comparison to the years following the pandemic.

"I believe that our community is finally bouncing back from COVID — we have groups that are back [at city-wide registration] with new volunteers in the leaderships positions, said Lisa Washington, Manager of Community Culture and Heritage with the city, noting several new groups have popped up since the last community registration event.

"There's also more diversity in the people coming to see what's happening," said Washington, adding, "I believe we have more families that are new to Yorkton coming into our community and I hope that they're finding something to get involved in here."

"We just very glad with the turnout and the response this year ... it's great to see everyone connecting with their neighbours and networking," said Schofer.
