Phyllis was born north of Springside on the family farm on September 1, 1925. She accepted the Lord at the age of 12, was baptized in 1940, and joined the church. She completed high school and attended Christian Training Institute in Edmonton, AB. On June 8, 1951, at the age of 25, she married the love of her life, Reuben. So began her greatest ministry: raising her children and working beside her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed being a helpful neighbour and is fondly remembered for her hospitality, especially the wonderful meals sometimes prepared at a moments notice. Reuben and Phyllis retired from the farm in 1981 and moved into Springside. They spent many of their winters in Sun City, Arizona. They traveled together extensively; some of her favorite places were Hawaii, Switzerland, Niagara Falls, and Banff. They moved to Saskatoon in 2002. Phyllis loved to create, her hobbies included painting, ceramics, flower arranging, cake decorating, quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening and reading a good book. She was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and sang in the choir. She served as president for the Gideon's Women's Auxiliary, president for Ladies Aide, and as a Pioneer Girls leader. Phyllis also worked at camp and loved working with the young peoples' group; she enjoyed serving as a mentor. Phyllis enjoyed attending church and loved ministering to others. God blessed her and she blessed others. She will be greatly missed. A Service of Comfort for Family and Friends was held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. A Celebration of Phyllis' life was held on Friday, December 2011 from Springside Baptist Church in Springside, SK with Pastor Brian Kirsch officiating. Special taped music selections of Phyllis' husband, Reuben playing the cello were played as processional and recessional music. Phyllis' family took part in the service as her son, Clair read the obituary, her granddaughter, Chelaine read a poem entitled, "Christmas in Heaven", her children, Clair, Warren and Maureen shared words of tribute and her grandson-in-law, Brian read the scripture.
