Minnie Yaworski

Minnie Yaworski passed away at the Lakeside Manor Care Home, Saltcoats, SK on January 12, 2017, at the age of 77 years. Minnie was born in the Swan Plain District, SK, to Bill and Mary (Rudachyk) Yaworski on January 28, 1939. She received her primary instruction at Swan Plain Public School, achieved Grade 9 by correspondence, and continued her education as she resided in a dorm at the Sturgis Composite High School throughout grade 10.  She rode the bus from her Aunt Esther and Uncle Mike Teron's farm to Sturgis for grades 11 and 12 and graduated in 1958. In 1963, Minnie was Diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. She lived on the farm with her parents until May 1972, when they moved to Canora, SK. Minnie began to babysit and care for children. In 1973, she worked as a seamstress, which she continued until 2000, when the Muscular Dystrophy made it too difficult to sew. After the death of her parents, Minnie continued to reside in her own home in Canora, with the assistance of her Uncle Mike Rudachyk who lived next door and the Home Care Staff, as well as her friends and neighbours.  Minnie prepared the meals and her Uncle Mike looked after the yard and garden. From 2002-2008, she used a desk chair to keep mobile and received a motorized wheelchair in December 2007. Minnie enjoyed many hobbies: sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking, especially trying new recipes. As it is said, "You're never too old to learn," Minnie learned to use a computer. She greatly appreciated this new device and went on to create and design all her own greeting cards. Minnie loved to help people and made them a priority in her life. She always made time to talk to her friends and relatives and was therefore, often affectionately referred to as "Dear Abby." On August 8, 2008, Minnie underwent surgery and subsequently stayed in the Yorkton and Canora Hospitals, as well as Jowsey House in Yorkton, prior to a brief stay in respite care at the Gateway Lodge in Canora. In October 2008, she was relocated to the Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats, SK where she continued to reside until her passing. After only two hours of being there, she claimed it already "felt like home." She was thankful for the wonderful, compassionate care she received from staff, especially those who accepted her for who she was, not what she could or could not do. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Minnie was predeceased by her mother, Mary, on February 28, 1985, her father, Bill, on February 25, 1992, and a brother in infancy. She will be lovingly remembered by her uncle, aunts, her many cousins, friends and extended family members. Prayers were held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm and the Funeral Service commenced Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10:00 am, both from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery.
