Madeline Yaremko passed away peacefully at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home (Orkney House) on Sunday May 20, 2012 at the age of 84 years. Madeline was born on the family farm in the Whitesand District, the daughter of Nick and Pearl (nee Stephanyshyn) Spilchen. She received her education at the Whitesand School and she lived and worked helping her parents on the farm. Madeline met Henry Yaremko in 1946 and she and Henry were united in Holy Matrimony on October 19, 1947. They shared 61 years together as husband and wife until Henry's passing in 2008. Madeline enjoyed watching hockey, baseball and many other sports. Those who knew Madeline know how she always cheered, "Go Toronto Go!" She was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan. She also enjoyed watching "Days of Our Lives" and "The Price Is Right". She was always willing to play cards with family and friends. Madeline was an active member in a bowling league and a horseshoe league. She was an avid gardener and took pride in her well kept vegetable and flower gardens. Madeline enjoyed travelling and took many trips with her family to Deadwood, Las Vegas, Minnesota and also to a Toronto hockey game. When Madeline's health began to fail after a stroke on March 17, 2007 it was evident that she needed to have additional assistance with her own care and she became a resident of Orkney House of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Madeline enjoyed her time there and was a beloved member of the house by the staff and other residents. She enjoyed the activities, especially bingos and the annual nursing home fair where she was awarded "Best Dressed" for dressing in her favourite sports gear.
