Val Wright, widow of the late Duncan Wright, longtime Yorkton resident, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was 79 years of age. Val was born on May 16, 1938, in Rhein, SK. She grew up in Yorkton where she attended Simpson School and YCI. After graduation she moved to Saskatoon where she worked at the Royal Bank. She met the love of her life Duncan at a party in 1961 and they were married on October 6, 1962, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorkton. God blessed them with 41 years of love. They began their life together in Yorkton where they built their home and filled it with memories. Val worked at the Royal Bank until Cory was born in November 1968, Cara followed in August 1970, and Candace in January 1973. Val loved being a mom and was an amazing domestic engineer - as she liked to be called. When she wasn't busy answering phone calls and doing Duncan's books for the family business, she could be found in her garden, in the kitchen cooking or baking, in the basement ironing everything from jeans to pillowcases, sewing baton and Halloween  costumes or the latest star wars bedding for Cory. She liked to read a good romance novel and the newspaper, watch soaps, game and cooking shows, curling and figure skating, and skunking someone at a game of crib. She loved when friends stopped by for a visit, hand numbing phone calls with her sisters and brothers or cousin Bob and all day shop til you drop. She had some amazing collections of spoons, thimbles, salt and pepper shakers, snow babies, antique glass, purses, shoes and coats! One of her proudest accomplishments was beating breast cancer.  But her favourite role was being Grams to Eric and Danielle. There were many puzzles put together, games played, questions answered, stories told, laughter and hugs. She was always baking them their favourite nanaimo bars and scuffles, and with much love and patience taught them both to win and lose at crib. Mom was the heart and foundation of the family. She leaves a legacy of love and our hearts rich in memories. Predeceased by her parents Raymond and Pauline (nee Poppenheim) Peppler; husband Duncan in January 2004; sister Caren and brothers-in-law Keith Schmaltz and Ken Sokolan. She will be lovingly remembered by son Cory; daughters Cara (Rheal) and Candace; her grandchildren Eric and Danielle; her sister Marva Schmaltz, brothers Clint (Rayna) and Randy (Faye), many nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbours. Val's family would like to specially thank Dennis, Chris, Larissa and Amber, Phil and Carol, Vic and Ev, Colin, Nurse Val and Dr. Lawale and staff. The funeral service was held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day officiating. The processional hymn was 'How Great Thou Art', the recessional was 'Guardian Angel'. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark with son Cory & daughter Candace serving as the urn bearers. Memorials in Val's name may be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, or to the Canadian Cancer Society as tokens of remembrance. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.
