Gladys Eileen Wiley (nee Burman) of the Bentley Retirement Home, Yorkton, SK passed away on May 19, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville, SK. at the age of 88 years. Gladys was born on May 5, 1924 at the family farm in the Clumber district near Bredenbury, SK. She was oldest child of Ted and Juliet Burman. She received her education at Clumber School. When Gladys was 20 years old, she moved to Fort William, ON to aid in the war effort by working at a munitions factory. Prior to her move she met Jack Wiley at a dance and soon after they became engaged. Immediately after the war, Jack and Gladys were married on June 27, 1945. Jack and Gladys built the family home in the Perley district where they raised two daughters, Marilyn and Sharyn and a son, Mervin. In 1981, they retired to their new home in Bredenbury. Gladys enjoyed knitting, birthday celebrations, attending local dinner theaters, camping and family vacations. She spent many hours tending her yard and garden and took great pride in preserving what her garden produced. Gladys enjoyed being involved in community groups, first in the Glyndwr Ladies Club and later as an active member of the Bredenbury UCW. She enjoyed coffee, parties and socializing with friends and neighbours. Gladys kept a detailed scrap book of the events and happenings of her family, friends and community throughout her life. She cherished her family gatherings took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1999 Jack passed away, and Gladys continued to live in their home in Bredenbury until February of 2005 when she decided to move to the Bentley Retirement Home where she resided until she passed away after a brief stay in hospital. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Wiley; her parents, Ted and Juliet Burman; her in-laws, Andrew and Amanda Wiley; her brother, Art and his wife, Marie Burman; brother and sisters-in-law, Fran Wiley, Ralph and Beryl Wiley, Bert and Dell Wiley, Milton and Ruth Ritchie, and nephew, Duncan Wiley. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Standish, Sharyn (Terry) Spokes and son, Mervin (Twila) Wiley; sister-in-law, May Wiley; her ten grandchildren, Warren (Karen) Sturm, Craig (Erin) Standish, Michael (Belinda) Standish, Trevor Standish, Brad Spokes, Jeff Spokes, Kendra (Danial) Swan, Dallas (Amy) Wiley, Shane Wiley and Jenine Wiley; great grandchildren, Brenda and Justin Sturm, Belle and William Standish, Declan Standish, Ashlyn and Lucas Standish, Rylen Swan, Peyton and Sydnee Wiley and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Mr. Thom Carnahan officiating. The organist, Mr. Lorne Neal and members of the Bredenbury United Church Choir (and Friends), led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "How Great Thou Art", "In The Garden" and " Would You Bless our Homes and Families". Special music included the choir anthem, "In The Bulb There is a Flower" and duet, Barb and Darlene Burman who sang, "Beyond the Sunset". The Interment Service followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery with Kendra Swan, Jenine Wiley, Jeff Spokes, Shane Wiley, Michael Standish, Trevor Standish, Dale Burman, Don Burman, Warren Sturm, Craig Standish, Brad Spokes and Dallas Wiley serving as the casket bearers.
