Olga Waselenchuk passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012, after a lengthy period of poor health. Olga was born on September 12, 1934 to William and Katherine Koropchuk in the Jedburgh district, the eldest of three children. She received her education at Jedburgh School. In June 1952, Olga married her sweetheart, Stan Waselenchuk, and they took over Stan's parents' farm. There, they ran a mixed farming operation, growing grain and raising cattle. Although Olga baked the best bread and cinnamon buns, she cooked, baked and cleaned because she had to - she tended her garden, flowers and cattle because she loved to. Olga was a keen sports enthusiast; she and Stan seldom missed a Garry League baseball game or Yorkton Terriers hockey game. She was also an avid curler, first in Jedburgh, and later in Yorkton when they retired. She also loved to dance, and she and Stan, along with their dancing buddies, Harvey and Iris, and Gerry and Louise, drove many miles attending dances. She loved nothing better than a good waltz with a good partner - which was usually Stan. Olga and Stan were blessed with five children - Wesley, Bonnie, Wayne, Wendy and Jeffrey. They were kept busy driving the kids to their various events, never missing a ball game or hockey game. Then as the grandchildren came along, they had to expand their spectating interests to include dance recitals, volleyball, gymnastics and swim meets. Unfortunately, when Olga should have had several more years of healthy retirement, a variety of health issues set in, causing her to give up many of her interests. She spent much of the past couple of years in and out of hospital, but she was home in her own bed in the early morning hours on Monday, when she passed quietly in her sleep. Olga was predeceased by her parents, William and Katherine Koropchuk. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: her husband of almost 60 years, Stan; children, Wes (Cheryl) of Port Coquitlam and his children, Brooklynn, Wyatt and Rhett; Bonnie McGerrigle (Patric) of Yorkton and their children Shaylyn, Kellen and Clancy; Wayne (Bea) of Winnipeg, Wendy (Bruce) of Calgary and their children Cassandra, Kaitlin and Ben; and Jeff (Lisa) of St. Albert and their children Seth and Quinn. Also brothers Ed (Geri) of Summerland and Ron (Bev) of Jedburgh, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 4, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Milo Spooner Craig of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. Olga's son, Jeff and her granddaughter, Clancy McGerrigle both shared words of tribute, memory and eulogy. Special taped music selections included "There Goes My Everything" by Charley Pride and "Green, Green Grass of Home" by Merle Haggard. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Mark with Olga's grandchildren, Shaylyn, Wyatt, Ben, Kellen, Rhett, Seth, Clancy, Cassandra and Quinn serving as the casket bearers.
