Leota Walsh (nee McQuarrie) December 14, 1917 - November 28, 2011. Heaven has a beautiful new angel. Leota passed away in Nanaimo, B.C. on November 28, 2011 at the age of 93 with her daughter Sherry by her side. Leota was born Leota McQuarrie in Owen Sound, ON. Parents John and Eva McQuarrie eventually moved the family (Ron, Leota and Vern) to Dauphin, MB where Leota attended public school, after which time they moved to Russell, MB. Leota completed her education at Yorkton Collegiate. She was an Associate of the Toronto Conservatory of Music and was a qualified Grade 10 piano teacher. On February 5, 1942 Leota married John (Jack) Walsh. They enjoyed their life together for 56 years until Jack passed away in 1998 at the age of 78. Leota enjoyed life and very much enjoyed her final years in Nanaimo, B.C. She loved animals and the natural beauty of Vancouver Island. Leota was very well liked and loved by all who knew her. Recently friends described Leota as "a truly spirited soul with a great sense of humour and a quick wit". Another said, Leota was a "great lady". She will be greatly missed. Leota was interred in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, December 6 during a private graveside funeral. She is survived by daughter Sherry and sisters-in-law Doris Maki of Kenora, ON and Maureen Tremblay of Calgary. She was predeceased by her father John McQuarrie in 1970, mother Eva McQuarrie in 1981 and also brothers Vernal and Ronald. Special thanks to Bailey's Funeral Home for their caring and compassionate service during this extremely difficult time.
