Evelyn Jane Unyi passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in Yorkton, SK. She was 81 years of age. Evelyn was born on the family farm near Saltcoats, SK on October 22, 1935 to John and Lillian Solomon. She attended Graham School and as a young girl loved working in the field with her Dad. She met Elmer and they were married on November 6, 1954. The couple farmed near Saltcoats and in 1959 were blessed with their only daughter, Debra. In 1965 the family moved into Saltcoats and later to Yorkton in 1973. Evelyn loved babysitting. She enjoyed it so much that she did it for over 20 years. She was so wonderful and loved by all the children she babysat that she will always be remembered by many as Grandma. Aside from babysitting, Evelyn really enjoyed playing cards and Bingo and keeping busy in her garden. For many years Evelyn was a member of the Army and Navy Auxiliary. She always looked forward to visiting with her friends and neighbours. Evelyn was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Jamie Lynn and Kristen Ashley who have always been the biggest pride and joy in her life. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Elmer in 2001; her mother, Lillian in 1995 and her father, John in 1959. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her daughter, Deb and son-in-law, Matt (who has always been like a son to her) of Yorkton, SK; her granddaughters, Jamie (Ryan) Decker of Yorkton, SK and Kristen (Mackenzie) Sereda of Rokeby, SK; great-granddaughters, Chloe Jane and Kenzie Jean; sister, Gladys (Jim) Nagy of Yorkton, SK; as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. A Service to Celebrate Evelyn's Life was held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Roland Legge officiating. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Evelyn's granddaughter, Kristen Sereda. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". A special taped music recessional was "Wings of a Dove" as sung by the Forrester Sisters. The Cremation Committal followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Evelyn's granddaughter, Jamie Decker serving as the urn bearer.
