Tena Tysowski, resident of Canora, formerly of Yorkton, passed away on February 16, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital. She was 71 years of age. Tena was born on November 12, 1940 in the Swan Plain district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Tony and Fern (nee Reimer) Derkatch. Tena was raised in the district and received her education from the Melmore School. As a young woman, she was united in marriage to Larry Tysowski. This union was blessed with five children. The family moved into Yorkton in the early 1960's. Tena remained at home caring for the children while Larry started his own construction business. Tena's children faced many medical challenges that kept her in the home caring for their needs. In later years Tena was able to find part-time work, firstly at the Yorkton Union Hospital, and later at Harry's Dutch Bakery. Tena eventually moved to Gorlitz and then to Canora to be closer to family. Tena enjoyed the new friends she met in Canora, she volunteered her time at the Keen-Age Centre, and enjoyed meeting many new people there. A friendly, outgoing individual, Tena cherished the visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tena had fifteen brothers and sisters, she was predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters, and nine survive her. She was also predeceased by her husband Larry, daughters: Sheila Tysowski and Sherry Slatford; sons: Dwayne and Allan; grandson Shawn Slatford; and great grandson Alex Langlois. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Blane and his wife April of Regina; grandchildren: Bev (Mike) Langlois, Crystal & Larry Slatford; and Taryn and Zakk Tysowski; six great grandchildren: Kaden, Devin, Lincoln, Devonian, Aries & Aimee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Kim Salo of Holy Trinity Anglican Church officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'Church in the Wildwood', and 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'. A eulogy was given by Ruth Sneider (Derkatch). The interment took place in the family plot in the Garden of St. Mark with son Blane as the urnbearer. Condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.
