Alice "Jean" Thorsness (nee Morrison) of Bredenbury, SK, passed away peacefully in hospital on February 18, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Jean was born August 26, 1929 in Yorkton, SK to Mary (nee Boyd) and Dan Morrison. She grew up in Yorkton and, in 1950, graduated from nursing school there. After graduating Jean travelled abroad for six months to Europe, Â鶹ÊÓƵ America, and Scotland, a place she would return to many times. In 1961, she married Samuel "Keith" Thorsness and they began their life together. In her career as a Registered Nurse, Jean worked at the Yorkton Union and surrounding hospitals, for child welfare, and at Lakeside Manor in Saltcoats. However, she may be most fondly remembered for being the unofficial nurse "on-call" for her friends, family, and community. Jean was a kind-hearted and generous person who conquered every challenge she took on, and she took on many. She was often volunteering for her church and community, as well as taking on new projects and hobbies at home. Throughout her life, Jean enjoyed baking, skiing, skating, painting, sewing, gardening, and travelling with her family. One of her greatest joys was her children and grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. Jean is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Keith, her sister, Florence Wilson, her son, Donald (Monica) Thorsness, her daughter, Myra (Darrel) Hasenclever, her grandchildren, Tianda, Samuel and Jack Hasenclever, her sister-in-law, Peg Thorsness, and her many nieces and nephews that were dear to her heart. A celebration of Jean Thorsness' life was held on Friday, February 24, 2017 in the Bredenbury Knox United Church officiated by Fred Nicholson and Sarah Giles. The organist, Lorne Neal, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Here I Am, Lord" and "How Great Thou Art". The Knox United Church Choir & Friends sang one anthem, "The Old Rugged Cross". Friends from the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite also shared a few selections. The Cremation Committal followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery, with Jean's granddaughter, Tianda Hasenclever serving as the urn bearer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Knox United Church in Bredenbury or the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting . Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, SK
