Ronald Lyle Thompson passed away peacefully on December 17, 2011 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in Yorkton, SK at the age of 75 years. He had suffered a severe stroke 13 months ago. Ron was born on April 26, 1936, the son of John and Nellie (nee Walker) Thompson. He was raised on the family farm in the Creekside district. He attended Creekside School and when his family moved into Theodore, he attended school there as well. Ron married Sally Koval on March 8, 1974. They spent most of the married years living in Yorkton. Ron loved the outdoors and he and Sally enjoyed many camping trips. Ron and Sally loved to play cards and were always ready for a game when family or friends visited. They entertained residents at the nursing home and visitors in their home. Ron had numerous jobs and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He devoted a large part of his time to the work of the Salvation Army. After Sally passed away, Ron relocated to MacNutt. He was involved in almost everything and made many good friends in the community. He made coffee every morning at the Seniors' Drop In Centre, went fishing and was involved with the Church and the Lions Club. Ron was predeceased by his wife, Sally; his parents, John and Nellie and his brother, Jack. He leaves to mourn his passing, his sister, Edith Guy of Theodore; his brother, Calvin (Jean) of Regina as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. A private family funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Arron Gust officiating. The interment followed in the Guest Cemetery with Bob Thompson, Don Thompson, Mervin Guy, Lana Thompson-Van Eaton, Kelly Pierson, Marilyn Lazurko and Deanna Fenske serving as the casket bearers.
