Cecile Angeline Steinmacher, daughter of John and Lena (Bogdasavich) Popowich, was born November 23, 1934 on the family farm near Jedburgh, SK. Her mother's hollyhocks, her horse Gracie, her dog Mountie, stooking and threshing season were some of Cecile's most cherished memories of her beloved childhood family farm days. Cecile was a young lady waitressing in Yorkton when she met Edwin Steinmacher. They wed May 4, 1954 in Melville and farmed there until 1957, when they moved to the Ituna Bon-Accord PFRA Community Pasture where Cecile helped with the books and Ed managed the pasture, and they raised four daughters. Here Cecile was the heart of her family, growing beautiful gardens and flower beds, canning and freezing late into the night, lovingly preparing countless meals, working hard to make every day special and every occasion extra-special for her family and friends, always making certain that her husband and children never went without. In 1999, after 42 years with the PFRA, Cecile & Ed retired to their present home near Yorkton, SK. Here Cecile's joys included time with her closest family, her loyal dog Bandit, watching her birds and deer, her flowers and providing wonderful meals. All her life, Cecile did everything she could for those she loved. She was our rock. Cecile passed from this life in her home, Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the age of 77, surrounded by family, all the love she had made. Predeceased by her parents, John and Lena Popowich, sister Adele (Solomon), brother Tony Popowich and grandson Michael Miskolczi. To cherish her memory she leaves Ed, her beloved husband of fifty seven years and their four daughters: Christine (Dennis) Bratkoski of Yorkton; Lorna (Rod) Miskolczi of Saskatoon; Fay (Jim) Morrissey of Calgary; and Pam Steinmacher (Cal Deforest) of the same farmyard; five grandchildren: Stacy, Andrew, Martina, Larissa and Amber; a sister, Josephine McIntosh of Yorkton, and many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. Rev. Father Francis Hengen officiated. The Lectors were Cal Deforest, Fay & Jim Morrissey. The giftbearers were Christine & Dennis Bratkoski and the crossbearers were Larissa & Amber Bratkoski. The organist, Pam Yaremko led members of the Parish Choir in the singing of the hymns 'Morning has Broken', Pslam 138, 'Precious Lord, take My Hand', 'Blest Are They', 'Song of the Angels', and 'Amazing Grace'. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemene with Dennis Bratkoski, Rod Miskolczi, Jim Morrissey, Cal Deforest, Andrew Miskolczi and Bob Solomon serving as the casketbearers. Condolences may be e-mailed to baileysfuneralhome.com. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
