It is with great sorrow that the family and friends mourn the passing of John Srochenski on Thursday, November 10, 2011 in Edmonton, AB. He was 60 years of age. John Anthony "Johnny" Srochenski was born on February 4, 1951, the son of John and Annie (nee Pawlowski) Srochenski in Lestock, SK. He received his education in Ravine School, Leross School, Ituna School and Roblin College, completing his education in Ituna where he graduated. Johnny worked for two years on the Canadian National Railway as a Switch Operator. He also worked at the nickel mine in Thompson, MB. After a brief return to Ituna, John made his way to Prince George, B.C. where he found work in construction. This became his career, and he spent his life as a carpenter building homes until the time that he was diagnosed with diabetes. His disease became quite serious as he suffered kidney failure and was on dialysis three times per week. Johnny's diabetes also caused the amputation of his leg in June of this year. Johnny remained in the care of the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, AB. where eventually his diabetes became fatal and he passed away on November 10, 2011. Johnny was married to Karen Shevchuk and they were blessed with three sons, Christopher, Kelly and Michael. Johnny loved his children very much and was extremely proud that two of the boys, Chris and Kelly had also chosen carpentry and home building for their careers. During the two years prior to his death, Johnny spent a lot of time reading the bible and watching Christian programs. He grew to have a great love for God. Jesus was what he always talked about and he carried a true love for Jesus in his heart. Johnny knew the words of the 23rd Psalm by heart - they were his prayer and his hope. Through all his suffering, Johnny never lost his sense of humour. Children were drawn to him - he loved them and they loved him because he made them laugh. Johnny made everyone laugh - right to the day before his death, he had his family laughing with his stories and quick wit. He will be very much missed by those who loved him. Johnny was predeceased by his parents, his father, John in 1963 (when Johnny was only 12 years old); his mother, Annie in 1986; his brothers, Joe, Mike, Frank, Peter and Stanley and his sister, Sophie. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his three sons, Christopher, Kelly and Michael, their families and his grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers, Walter, Julian, Edward, Bernie, Paul and Joe and his sisters, Bernice, Victoria, Kathy, Mary, Teresa and Elizabeth as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Galen L. Tracy officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." John's sister, Kathy Tracy gave tribute in eulogy to her brother, and John's sisters, Elizabeth Moleski and Mary Morrison read scriptures. A special taped musical selection was played, one of John's favorite songs, "Me and Jesus". The interment service took place at Yorkton Memorial Gardens in the Garden of St. John with Pastor Galen L.
