WILBUM (JACK) SMITHSON


Wilburn John (Jack), Smithson June 4, 1932 - July 7, 2012. Jack Smithson, beloved husband of Geraldine Smithson of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the age of 80 years. Jack worked for Sasktel A.G.T. and Alberta One Call for over fifty years He was an active parishioner at St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a morning fixture at the Talisman Centre. Jack's passion was gardening. Jack is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, John Smithson and Toby Herrig, Jeff and Sherri Smithson, Mike and Rhonda Smithson; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Jamie Hendrick; three grandchildren Sean Herrig, Megan Smithson, and Matthew Smithson. He is also survived by his sister Bernice Powell; brothers Ken and Morley Smithson; sister-in-law Rosalie Mlazgar and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Ruby Zimmer and Joyce Uhl and infant sister Marguerite Smithson. Funeral was held on July 13, 2012. The eulogy was read by Jeff Smithson. Readings were by Janna Powell-Smith and Carol Hendrick. Pallbearers were John Smithson, Mike Smithson, Jeff Smithson, and Jayme Hendrick. In living memory of Jack Smithson, McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes has provided a tree to be dedicaed at Fish Creek Provincial Park.



God saw you getting tired,
The cure was not to be.
So He closed His arms around you
And whispered "Come with me"
You tried so hard to stay with us
Your fight was all in vain
God took you to His loving home
And freed you from all pain.
If love could have saved you
You never would have died.
