Mr. Emil Sereda of Yorkton, beloved husband of Mabel, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his wife at his side. He was 91 years of age. Emil was born on May 11, 1925 in Jedburgh, SK. He was born into a family of twelve children to Bill and Pearl (nee Kondro) Sereda. Emil was united in marriage to Mabel Smart on February 23, 1963. He farmed for a short period of time in the Jedburgh area before moving to Yorkton. He worked at the Co-op Creamery, Yorkton Hotel, Royal Canadian Legion and the last position he held at the Yorkton Court House as a maintenance person. He took pride in his work and received an award for excellence. The couple purchased a home on Argyle Street where he remained until his passing. Emil was musically inclined playing with many bands in the community and to the very end of his life he loved Ukrainian music. Emil will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Predeceased by his parents and his brothers and sisters; Emil leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years Mabel; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Doreen Day, Certified Celebrant officiating. Included in the service was a taped hymn, "Shall We Gather At The River" and special selections, "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning", "One" and "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Kevin Borden (nephew) read the eulogy and served as the urn bearer. The interment will take place at a later date. Memorials in memory of Emil may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
