Mrs. Doreen Sereda of Yorkton, beloved wife of Emil, passed away peacefully after many years of health issues and a continued demonstration of strength on Friday, January 12, 2018 surrounded by family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 71. Doreen Mabel Rodych was born on May 28, 1946 in Foam Lake Hospital by parents Sophie and Mike Rodych. Doreen was the oldest of three siblings; survived by her brother Methodius (Donna) Rodych of Medicine Hat, and their daughter Stefanie (Dane) McKinley and granddaughter Adelynn and sister Christine (Leon) Froess of Regina and their daughters Courtney, Candice and Kendra. In her early years, Doreen grew up in Beckenham, SK while attending school in Runneymeade, Ituna and Foam Lake. On May 28, 1966 Doreen married her high school sweetheart Emil Sereda in Ituna, SK on her 20th birthday. Doreen, a proud and devout Catholic dedicated to her family, didn't let much slow her down. Despite both Emil and herself working full time jobs and raising six young children; five boys and one girl, her devotion to faith and family never wavered. Doreen's creative passions included spending time in the kitchen, floral design and cross-stitching. Doreen was almost as devout to her daytime soap operas (stories as we all knew them to be) as she was to her faith and family…but not quite. If it wasn't her 'stories' she was watching it was her armchair quarterbacking of the Riders or skipping Team Saskatchewan or Canada at curling. She loved to read, specifically about Princess Diana and grew toward a new-found love of fishing with Emil, most of the time catching bigger fish than he did! Waiting to greet Doreen in Heaven (predeceased by) both her parents, father Mike Rodych in 2001, mother Sophie (Krywulak) in 2017, one twin son Kim in 1996 and faithful Sparky who was always there to cuddle with Doreen. Survived by husband Emil Sereda of 51 years of marriage, son Kevin (Tracy) of Regina, SK and children Koby, Carson, Ayden and Marysa; Kelly (Joy) of Kitchener, ON and son Tanner; Trent (Nicole) of Saskatoon, SK and children Josee and Halle; Kyle (Angela) of Moose Jaw and daughter Jazmyne and Amanda (Curtis) Knihnitski of Saskatoon and daughters Peyton and Aubrey. Doreen is forever in our hearts, always remembered and will never be forgotten. A Prayer Vigil was held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton led by Mary Bybliw. The reader at the vigil was Carson Sereda. All the children conveyed a tribute to their mom. The Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Louis Kim Nguyen as the Celebrant. Diana Hornung accompanied members of St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns. The cross bearer was Koby Sereda and the readers were Stefanie McKinley and Candice Froess. The general intercessions were led by Halle Sereda and Marysa Sereda. The gift bearers were Ayden Sereda, Josee Sereda, Jazmyne Sereda, Peyton Knihnitski, Aubrey Knihnitski and Tanner Sereda. Members of CWL offered the honour guard and tribute. Named as honourary bearers were the Grandchildren, Koby Sereda, Carson Sereda, Ayden Sereda, Marysa Sereda, Josee Sereda, Halle Sereda, Peyton Knihnitski, Aubrey Knihnitski, Jazmyne Sereda, Tanner Sereda. The interment will take place at Yorkton Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials in memory of Doreen may be made to the Intensive Care Equipment Fund at Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
