Mr. Leonard Schlechter of Yorkton, beloved husband of the late Eva Schlechter, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018, just 4 days short of his 95th year. Leonard was born January 16, 1923 in Waldron, SK. He was the second oldest of 8 children born to Karl and Margaret. On October 19, 1948 Leonard was united in marriage to Eva Exner. They were the first to be married in the newly erected St. Michael's Church of Bangor, SK. They lived in Bangor where he worked as a blacksmith. They then moved to Oshawa, ON in 1954 where together they made their home. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Ken in 1957 and a daughter, Sharon in 1960. Leonard worked at General Motors for 32 years as a millwright. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always had time to spoil his loved ones. He enjoyed watching and playing sports with his children and grandchildren. When Eva wasn't looking he would sneak candies or give a bowl of ice cream to his grandchildren. He loved camping and taking road trips with their RV. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Eva; brothers Joe, Bill, Rynold; sister Margaret. He leaves to celebrate his life in stories and fond memories with his children Ken and Sharon (Al); her three grandchildren Jeffery (Robyn), Bradley (Codi), Victoria and his 8 great-grandchildren Kaylee, Emma, Keelen, Eva, Eden, Casey, Laraine and expecting baby Felix. A Prayer Vigil was held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church In Yorkton with Mary Bybliw leading in prayer. The reader at the vigil was Ken Schlechter. The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Louis Kim Nguyen as the Celebrant. Members of St. Gerard's Choir were led by pianist, Diana Hornung in the singing of the hymns. The cross bearer was Bev. Kitsch and the readers were Wayne Exner and Ken Schlechter. Leading in the intercessions was Shirley Schlechter. Serving as gift bearers were Ken Schlechter and Sharon Barclay. Members of the Knights of Columbus participated in an honour guard. The interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Norman Varga, Donald Ward, Jeff Pflanzer, Brad Pflanzer, Wayne Exner and Allan Schlechter serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Leonard may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan or St. Gerard's Church. Condolences can be sent to the family at .
