Mr. Pete Sass of Yorkton, formerly of the Fenwood district, beloved husband of Rose Sass passed away on May 24, 2012, at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. It is with a sense of peace that we announce the passing of Pete Sass. Pete was born on August 27, 1925 in the Hubbard District to Metro and Margaret (Howatiuk) Sass. He was raised on the family farm in the same area and attended Stanisloff School. In 1940 the family moved to the Fenwood area and in the mid 40's moved to a farm in the same area. On October 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Rose Pacholko. In 1955 they moved to a farm near Beaverdale Church better known as the Lees farm. Their son Raymond was born in 1955 followed by the birth of their daughter Lorraine in 1959. The family endured tough times without the modern conveniences and impassible roads until 1960 when Pete and Rosie purchased land only a mile from the his father's homestead. Pete and Rosie made many upgrades to the house and farm and remained on the farm until their retirement in 1994. At that time they purchased their dream home in Yorkton and enjoyed the regular pay cheque from the government which differed from the unpredictable farm income. At this time they purchased their green Chevy S10 truck that Dad enjoyed and regularly cleaned and polished until his health would not allow him drive. Pete enjoyed family functions, playing cards with family and friends, grooming the grass in his yard and keeping the yard immaculate. At this time he became a "pool shark" and spent many days in Fenwood and Melville playing a billiard game called "101" for which he displayed many of his trophies. Pete was always willing to help others especially if he could use his truck to haul items. Pete was quick to offer a drink to visitors which he referred to as a "shot". Pete was predeceased by his parents Metro and Margaret, his siblings, Steve, Nick, Frank and Mike. Pete is lovingly missed by his beloved wife Rose; son Raymond (Donna) and their 2 children Nolan (Kristen) Sass, Trista (Tyler fiancé) Sass, daughter Lorraine (Mike) Heck and their son Brandon. Pete was blessed with great grandchildren Tyson, Brayden, Kolton, Jayd, Kashton, and Keira. Pete will be sadly missed by brothers Walter and Bill, sisters Sophie, Anne, Eleanor, Mary, Rose, Olga, Jeanette and Angie as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rest in Peace! Prayers were held on Sunday, May 27 at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home. Ray Sass shared remembrance of his father's life. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, May 28 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and members of St. Mary's Choir. The cross bearer was Trista Sass and the candle bearer was Jayd Girling. Elaine Dohms served as the epistle reader. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Brandon Heck, Al Pacholko, Bryan Stadnyk, Randy Lazurko, Darrell Sass and Wayne Karapita serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Pete's life may be made to the Skinner Unit at Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.baileysfuneralhome.com.
