Doreen Sanderson, a resident of Yorkton & District Nursing Home passed away April 12, 2012 at the age of 78 years. Doreen Lillian Sanderson was born on January 3, 1934 in the Good Luck district north of Springside, daughter of Fred and Louise Sanderson. Doreen attended Good Luck School and at the age of 17 she left school to help on the family farm. At the age of 20 Doreen went to work for her sister Doris and brother-in-law Wilfred on their dairy farm west of Yorkton for seven years. This was followed by a baby-sitting job in Yorkton. In 1968 Doreen commenced employment at the Yorkton Hospital as a dietary aide until 1982 when she retired early due to health issues. Even though Doreen had health problems she was always ready to help other people and visit with friends. She helped her brother Don and sister Doris when their health was declining. When Doreen couldn't get out she was always visiting with friends and relatives on the phone or in her home over a cup of tea. Doreen's pastimes included watching T.V. and doing crossword puzzles. She became a resident of Yorkton & District Nursing Home on July 12, 2011. Doreen is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Louise Sanderson; brothers, James, Donald and Glenn; sister Doris Wilcox and sister-in-law Florence Sanderson. She leaves to cherish her life her brother David of Calgary, AB; sisters, Betty (Ken) Askin of Langley, BC, Shirley (Herman) Falkenberg of Yorkton and Beverley (Edgar) Askin of Delta, BC; sisters-in-law Bella Sanderson of Regina and Marlene Sanderson of Calgary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, April 20 at Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton with Rev. Daniel Moeller officiating. The organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Safe in The Arms of Jesus", "Just As I Am" and "Old Rugged Cross". The interment followed in Springside Town Cemetery with Allan Mitchell, Bruce Askin, Gary Sanderson, Colin Wilcox, Kelly Atcheynum and Gib Mitchell serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Doreen may be made to Cancer Society, Arthritis Society or the Diabetes Association.
