Annie (Yakiwchuk) Rurak

Annie (Yakiwchuk) Rurak of Yorkton, widow of George Rurak, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. She was 89 years of age. Annie was born on April 16, 1927 in the Canora district of Saskatchewan. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Dneister School. On February 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to George Rurak. The couple farmed in the Churchbridge district until they retired from farming to Yorkton in 1994. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone when needed. In 1994, the couple moved into Yorkton. George passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a time of failing health at 85 years of age. Annie will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Annie was predeceased by her cherished husband George of 60 years, parents Jacob and Lucy (nee Derkatch), sister Sadie Thompson, brother John Yakiwchuk, sister Helen Antonichuk, parents-in-law Mike and Annie (nee Eftoda) Rurak and brothers-in-law Steve Elie, John Rurak and Michael Rurak, sisters-in-law Nora Rubletz, Francis Korbet, Elsie Curl, Mary Zabalotny, Victoria Anderson and Rosie Wilson. She is survived by her brother Anton Yakiwchuk; niece Denise (Mel) Dunn and their daughter Faith; nephew Dennis (Melanie) Yakiwchuk, niece Dianne (Tom) Bobbitt, nephew Steve (Marlene) Bobbitt & daughter Dana, all of Winnipeg, MB. She also leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her sister-in-law Mary Shulman of Yorkton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews on the Rurak side and countless friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Barry Wood officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'What A Friend We Have in Jesus' and 'Amazing Grace'. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Rob Ricker, Tim Soloshy, Dennis Yakiwchuk, Don Shuparsky, Jeffrey Korbet and Pat Keeler serving as the casket bearers. At the memorial luncheon following the funeral, Jenn Ricker gave a tribute to Annie. Memorials were to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic. Condolences can be left at .
