Frances Ethel Rhinas (nee Greenstein) was born September 27, 1927 to Catherine and Joseph Greenstein; one of four children. Frances grew up on the family farm near Rhein, SK and attended Wallace School and later Yorkton Collegiate. Frances met Walter Rhinas of the Ebenezer area and approximately a year later they married on October 2, 1949. They lived in Yorkton for a short period and then moved to the farm where they farmed for many years. During those years they were blessed with nine children; six boys and three girls. Frances worked hard on the farm. She milked cows, tended garden, raised chickens, ducks and geese and was continually cooking, taking coffee and meals out to the field during seeding, haying and harvest. As Walter's health began to fail, they had a farm auction and then purchased a home in Yorkton in 1999. Frances loved her new life in Yorkton and felt like a queen in her new home. She enjoyed gardening and grew flowers in every pot she could possibly find. Frances remained in her home following Walter's passing in September 2005 for a few more years. She then moved to Fisher Court where she developed many new friendships with her neighbors. As her health began to fail she was placed in Long Term Care in October, 2015 at Canora Gateway Lodge and eventually the Yorkton District Nursing Home. Frances was very dedicated to her family. In her quiet indirect way, she taught the meaning of hard work and the importance of growing and maintaining family values. She was very proud of her children, their accomplishments and successes and had a very special place in her heart for each and every one of them. She thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed her grandchildren and always shared her concerns and words of wisdom with them. She was especially fond of her many great-grandchildren and even as her mind was failing she would often recall and make special mention of them. Her eyes would light up when she saw them. Frances passed away at the Yorkton District Nursing Home, Malinowski House on Sunday, February 19, 2017 with her family by her side. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Walter in 2005; her parents; sister, Josie and husband, Wilfred Betz; and brother, Meldrum Greenstein. She leaves to mourn her passing and to share her memory her children: Dale (Myrna), Joan (Dave) Malhiot, Gordon (Gloria), Bob (Ivy), Brenda (Lyle) Walsh, Randy (Shirley), Harley, Dean (Monica) and Traci (Sheldon) Kopeck; as well as 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and close family friend, Ron Smith. She is also survived by her brother, Stuart (Barb) Greenstein of Yorkton, and sisters-in law, Jennie Greenstein of Rhein and Lydia Kendall of Billings, Montana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
