Paul Prokopiuk of Canora, SK, passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on June 17, 2012, at the age of 98 years. Paul was born on Decemeber 11, 1913, to Nick and Oksana (Demchuk) Prokopiuk in Canora, SK. As a young boy he attended the West Wexford School. He completed his grade eight education and continued to farm with his parents. In 1937, Paul took over the home operation. On October 17, 1937, Paul was united in marriage to Katherine Danyliuk. Paul and Katherine moved to Paul's father's place in Burgis where they operated a mixed farming operation which included: grain, cattle, pigs, geese and chickens. Two years later, in April of 1939, Paul and Katherine purchased their own quarter of land. Paul was involved in many organizations: West Wexford School District for twenty-four years, Sask Wheat Pool Committee for twenty-seven years, councillor for Division four of the RM of Good Lake for ten years and the Canora Hospital Board for ten years as well. Over many years, Paul kept his files and records in meticulous order; everything was titled, dated and labeled. He kept a running diary on calendars for over thirty years. Paul will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Paul was predeceased by his wife Katherine; his parents, Nick and Oksana; his five sisters: Lettie, Mary, Gladys, Jennie and Patricia in infancy; his brother John in infancy; his son-in-law Jack Manahan; his grandson Dean Manahan and his brothers-in-law: Steve Chikowski, Art Chelte, Al Barnett and Jim Alton. Paul is lovingly remembered by his daughter Diane Manahan; his two sons: Paul Jr. (Mavis) and James (Linda); his sister Lil (Frank) Merritt; his sister-in-law Martha Danyluk; his grandchildren: Ward (Cindy) Manahan, Paula Lindsay, Kristy (Kurt) Stechyshen, Tim Prokopiuk (Randean) Stacy, Jamie and Tyler Prokopiuk; his great grandchildren: Cole and Brett Lindsay, Cassie and Lexi Manahan, Maddox, Manning Jennings and Porter Stechyshyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Prayer Service was held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, June 21, 2012, both held from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora, with Rev. Catherine Pace of the United Church of Canada officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the St. Andrew's United Church Memorial Fund or to a Charity of Donor's Choice as tokens of remembrance in memory of Paul.
