Mr. Leslie Popp, 82 of Yorkton, formerly of the MacNutt district, beloved husband of Eileen Popp, passed away on April 8, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre surrounded by his family. Leslie Duane Popp was born December 3, 1934 at the family farm in the Landestreu district. He was baptized and confirmed at the Landestreu Lutheran Church and received his education at schools in Zorn, MacNutt and Yorkton. On June 14, 1957 he married Eileen Rathgeber and shortly after they were married their two children son Duane and daughter Laureen were born. After completing high school, Leslie returned to the family farm which had been settled by his grandfather Phillip in 1900. He lived on and farmed the land with his father and son until they retired to Yorkton in 2011. His son Duane now continues the Popp farming tradition. Leslie actively volunteered and participated in events in the MacNutt community. He gave of his time as a 4-H leader, hockey referee and as chair of the Potash County Home Care; he was also a long-time member and supporter of the Lions Club and Saskatchewan Liberal Party. He enjoyed curling, playing cards, watching sports, attending sports days and getting out for coffee with friends. Leslie was predeceased by his parents Frank and Elizabeth (nee Mensch) Popp and his brother-in-laws Norman McKinnon, David Cross and Don Webster. Leslie is survived and remembered by his wife Eileen (of 60 years), their son Duane (Charlene) Popp of Churchbridge and daughter Laureen (Eric) Larson of Regina; their grandchildren Gregory (Penny) Popp of Regina and Karmen (Dustin) Hussey of Regina and their great-grandchildren Johnathan and Christopher Popp and Makenna Hussey. He is also survived by his three sisters Katie McKinnon, Florence Cross, Bernie Webster and their families. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton with Rev. Jen Dresser officiating. The organist, Shani Apland led St. Andrew's Choir and congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Abide With Me", "Amazing Grace" and "Onward Christian Soldiers". A Scripture Reading was given by Gregory Popp. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Matthew at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Glen Cross, Clifford Cross, Dwight Webster, Randy Schappert, Claire DeCock and Craig Kaeding serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Leslie's life may be made to a Charity of Choice as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at .
