Rosie (Magas) Popowich, wife of late Mike Popowich of Yorkton, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 25, 2012 at the Yorkton Nursing Home - Morris Wing. She was 95 years of age. Rosie was born on June 8, 1917 in the Drobot district (south of Buchanan, SK) to Metro and Irene (Marchuk) Magas. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Drobot, a church she held dearly to in her heart as many of her family members rest in its cemetery. Rosie also attended Dobronovitz School until Grade 8 and helped her parents on the family farm for many years. In 1944 Rosie married Mike and they were blessed with two sons and a daughter - Orest, Henry and Phyllis. They farmed near her parents in the Drobot district until moving to Theodore, then Yorkton in 1965. Rosie enjoyed farming in their younger years. She was also an avid gardener and excellent seamstress. She enjoyed needlework and many other crafts. Rosie would often see an outfit or craft in a book, study the picture and then create the piece herself without a pattern! After moving to Yorkton, Rosie continued to garden, sew, bake and baby sit as well as work for some time in a Chinese Restaurant. Mike passed away in 1997 and Rosie continued to live in their home until June of 2011 when she became very ill and was unable to live by herself anymore. For the past year she has quietly battled cancer at the Nursing Home. Rosie found great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Smiles were always found for hugs and kisses especially with her smallest great-grandchildren! Her greatest happiness was to have her family home for Christmas Eve to prepare the traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve supper. Many weeks were spent preparing all of the special dishes and her memory will forever live on through this traditional meal. Rosie was predeceased by her parents, husband Mike, sisters Mary Zuk and Dora Pawliw and brothers Mike, Johnny, Nick and John. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her children Orest and Henry (Linda) both of Edmonton, and Phyllis (Jerry) Viczko of Yorkton; her grandchildren Tammie (Kent) Latimer, Scott (Stefanie) Viczko, Curtis and Dale Popowich and Mark Popowich; and her great-grandchildren Ethan and Sarah Latimer and Kallie and Mason Viczko. Vichnaya Pamyat - Eternal Memory The Funeral Service was held on July 30, 2012 from The Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Father Evan Maximiuk officiating and Gerald Yaholinitsky as cantor.
