The gift of life of Chesley Wilfred Patzer began in Yorkton, SK. on November 10, 1952. He was the first of the twins to be born to Wilfred and Frances Patzer. He struggled for life right from the start, having pneumonia as a baby and being very small in size. True to his God given nature he was a fighter and came through this setback and excelled throughout his life. He lived on the farm near Ebenezer, with his parents and 2 brothers. He was an excellent student in school and won many accolades for his intellectual achievements. We have heard many entertaining stories of life on the farm and know that Ches' work ethic was formed as he watched his dad and mom work diligently to provide for their family. In 1975 he graciously said yes to Barb's proposal of marriage. God blessed their family with two wonderful sons. Their first home was a modular home on the same yard as Ches' parents. There, close family bonds developed as Grandma and Grandpa were only steps away. In 1985, they sold the trailer and moved into the house that Ches' dad built in 1956. They still call that home. As most young men, his interests were in things with motors. We were often reminded that on this date I bought my first new car, a 1972 red Dusteror on this date I bought my first new Moto-ski sled. He enjoyed hanging out with his cousin Warren and friend Darryl. He began his first job right after high school. He started in the warehouse at Western Grocers later renamed Sunspun. One of his first jobs there was roasting peanuts in the shell, which he says he only burned one batch. Who would think that 39 years later when the company sold out, that he would still be working there. He worked in the warehouse, later becoming a grocery buyer and still later the front administrator. He was very dedicated to his job and spent many many hours at his desk. He often brought work home, working late into the night, so he could spend time with his family before they went to bed. In their lives together the family had many adventures. When Adam was little, many evenings they would pack up grandma and grandpa and the fishing gear and head for Goose Lake. In their early married lives, July 1 was spent on a special holiday trip to Madge Lake, just to relax and get away from the farm. They loved to camp. When the boys were older they started making annual tenting trips to Jasper, their favourite place to visit. They rented a motorhome three or four times and took Grandma and Grandpa Patzer on an adventure. One trip they took the Bellows and the Patzer parents along and did a loop from Edmonton, Victoria and Spokane, Wash. So many precious memories were made on those trips, with Ches driving the majority of the way. In 2000 they celebrated their 25th anniversary with a whirlwind trip to Amsterdam, Stockholm, Poland and Germany. While there they stayed with and visited family. In 2005 they went on a bus tour from Rome to London. In 2011 they took the family and spent an amazing week in Hawaii. They didn't have to leave the farm to find adventure. There were always interruptions in the night with frozen watering bowls that needed defrosting and raccoons and skunks that needed eradication. Anytime there was an appointment or a church service the cows decide to try his patience by jumping the fence. One spring/summer we had so many muskrats that Ches and our dog Tuk had a running total of who could eliminate the most. Tuk won. God was the most important part of Ches' life. He gave his heart to Jesus at a very early age and strove to follow God's leading throughout his life. His greatest longing of his life was that God would be glorified. After his cancer diagnosis he strove to learn more about God and what His Word says. He served in the church anyway he could. He held some positions that he felt very unqualified for, doing his best with God's guidance. He wanted to thank you for playing a important part in his life, making him into the amazing man that he was. His life will be celebrated by those left behind; wife Barb; sons Adam (Lindsay) and James (Erin); beautiful granddaughter Ellie; mom Frances; brothers Darryl (Colleen) and Robert (Hazel); brothers in law and sisters in law; many dear nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts and cousins; his family at Ebenezer church; coworkers and friends. A Viewing and Commemoration Service was held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ebenezer, SK with Pastor Kendall Buhler officiating. Interment Services were held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with Darryl Patzer, Robert Patzer, Adam Patzer, James Patzer, Clinton Patzer and Wyatt Patzer serving as casketbearers. The organist, Diane Weinmaster led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "To God Be The Glory" and "Victory In Jesus". A special musical selection, "In Christ Alone" was sung by Carrie Kyle and Kathy and Dallas Lundell.
