Robert Thomas Owen. July 21, 1941 - December 20, 2017. It is with profound sadness and loving memories that we announce the sudden passing, after a fall, of Bob Owen on December 20, 2017. Bob was born July 21, 1941 in Yorkton, SK, to Hugh and Margaret Owen. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Margaret Owen and his sister-in-law, Ruth Owen. Bob attended Yorkton Collegiate Institution for high school and upon graduation worked to earn tuition to attend the University of Saskatchewan in Accounting graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. He then obtained his Master's degree in Accounting at the U. of S. Bob leaves his loving wife of 49 years, Susan Owen, Calgary, AB, brothers, Glynn Owen (Moira), Calgary, AB, Wendell Owen, Saskatoon, SK, sisters, Marlene Rusnell, (David), Trail, BC, Shani Apland, (Greg), Yorkton, SK and many loving nieces and nephews and friends. Bob and Susan briefly met in Swift Current, SK and met again at the University of Saskatchewan in 1965 and were married on July 13, 1968 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Swift Current, SK. They moved to St. John's, NL for Bob to continue as an Assistant Professor at Memorial University where his passion was teaching. After two years they moved to Eugene, Oregon where Bob took a second Master's degree. He then accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Calgary. Bob had a remarkable ability to speak to small and large groups of people. Bob and Susan's next move took them to Toronto, ON where Bob was head of Professional Development at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells. They remained in Toronto for 16 years and they returned to Calgary where Bob set up his own business. Although he suffered from a lung condition most of his life, nothing ever held him back from his positive outlook. Bob was an avid sports fan, his two favourite teams being the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the New York Yankees. Bob's love for Susan and his family was boundless. His sense of humour and sparkling wit was always present and he loved hosting and attending get togethers with his family and friends. Softly within the shadows there came a gentle call, with farewells left unspoken you quietly left us all. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Calgary, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
