MORPHY - George Robert. February 12, 1943 - December 17, 2017. After a year-long journey with cancer, George passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2017. He will be forever missed and always remembered by his sweetheart, wife and best friend of 48 years Merle, daughters Lisa (Chad) and Fran (Jeff), two granddaughters Carrie and Rebecca, numerous furballs and many extended relatives and friends. George was born and raised in Saltcoats, SK and enjoyed sharing fond memories growing up with his cousins. He eventually made his way to Calgary where he met Merle and started their family. Then came the move to Regina to be closer to extended family, where they lived for 33 years and he worked for almost 25 years with Canada Post. The next move took them to Lumby in 2010. While he enjoyed retirement in BC and being Lumby's handyman, his heart was always in Saskatchewan. Wherever he was, "Grumpy" George was fondly known by all for his generous heart and for helping others any way he could. He showed his love through building and fixing. Whether it was a new deck or fence, a bathroom renovation, refinishing furniture or just a quick repair, he was there. In fact, "Let George Do It" was a common saying by all who knew him. George had a passion for reading, camping, fishing, travelling, doing yard work, CFL football, curling, bowling, Christmas and all the things from the past. He was always keeping busy with some project on the go, even during this past year. A Celebration of Life Service was held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the White Valley Community Centre (2250 Shields Ave, Lumby, BC). As Dad was a lover of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local animal shelter. Heartfelt thanks to all the family and friends who have helped our parents throughout their lives, but especially during this past year - your loving hearts and generosity are greatly appreciated. Dad truly cherished all the visits he had with everyone, from medical personnel to close relatives, from old friends to new.
Known by all for helping out
Nothing was ever too small or too big
"Let George Do It" was well known
To be a common thing
He was a loving Dad, Grandpa and Hubby
And close friend to oh so many
Know that, Dad, we will remember you
And all the memories we will cherish
