Mrs. Mary Morozoff of Yorkton, widow of Paul passed away on Monday, May 14 at the age of 87 years. Mary was born on April 3, 1925 on the family farm five miles south-east of Verigin, SK, in the Slavanka village district; a daughter of John P. Popoff and Leukeria (nee Harshenin). She was raised on the family farm and attended the Spring Valley country school. On November 7, 1944 she was united in marriage to Paul Morozoff. The couple resided on the farm in the district until moving to Vancouver for one year in 1947. Following their return to Saskatchewan Mary & Paul farmed and raised their family of a son Richard and a daughter Donna. After the harvest of 1970, the couple moved to Thompson, Manitoba, where they resided for two years before returning to the farm. In September of 1997, Mary & Paul moved to Yorkton but continued to return to the farm each summer. Mary was a homemaker, she loved gardening & tending to her flower beds. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and sewing. Her hobbies included playing cards with family and friends, and occasional visits to the casino. Mary & Paul enjoyed travelling, the couple travelled throughout Canada, the United States, and Cuba. Paul predeceased Mary on August 13, 2004. Mary had been enjoying good health until this year, but was hospitalized at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Friday, May 11. Mary spent her last Mother's Day in the hospital in the loving company of her children. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, John & Leukeria; her brother John Popoff; son-in-law, Wayne Stricker; niece Ann Lee Horkoff; and her sister-in-law, Ann Popoff. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Richard of Yorkton; her daughter Donna (Grant) Stricker of Yorkton; grandchildren: Josh Stricker of Edmonton, Quinton Stricker of Moose Jaw, and Warren Stricker (Melissa Dergousoff) of Saskatoon; two great grandsons, Andrew Solonenka of Yorkton and Owen Dergousoff of Saskatoon; a brother-in-law Bill (Florence) Morozoff of Burnaby, BC; nieces, Loretta (Norman) Mackesay of Verigin, and Lisa (Harold) Remezoff of Regina. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 18th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Michael Elertson officiating. The interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Kamsack with Quinton Stricker, Warren Stricker, Andrew Solonenka, Craig Ostafie, Jared Stevenson and Craig Malanchuk serving as the casket bearers.
