Dorothy Jean Morgan, November 13, 1917 - February 8, 2012. Dorothy (Dorrie) was born in the Castleton District on November 13, 1917. The second child of Alex and Jeannie (Rodgers) Bradford, Dorrie grew up in the Castleton District attending school and later on working for nearby neighbours. On March 26, 1936 she married Walter (Luke) Morgan. They resided on the Frank Morgan farm until the fall of 1941 when they bought their own farm in the Castleton District. Dorrie was the mother of three children - Joyce, Jimmy and Delmar. She worked hard on the farm, grew big gardens and very much enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens. She also loved to bake and made many angel food cakes and decorated numerous wedding cakes. There was always plenty of food and room for one more at the table. After losing her mother in 1940 she made many trips to The Bradford farm, eight miles away, by a team of horses to help out with the house, laundry and the younger children. During these times she also had three brothers overseas in the Second World War where her brother Roy was killed in action. Life was not easy. In October of 1976 Luke and Dorrie sold the farm and moved into Saltcoats. Dorrie enjoyed many great years in town. She kept busy gardening, curling, attending ball games and helping with the Agriculture Society. She attended the United Church and sang in the choir until she turned ninety in 2007. In October, 2002 Dorrie sold her home and moved into a senior unit. Due to failing health she then moved into Saltcoats Lakeside Manor Care Home in October, 2011 where she received excellent care until her passing. Dorrie is lovingly remembered by her daughter Joyce (Lyle) Hillis, sons Jimmy (Kathy) Morgan and Delmar (Sheryl) Morgan; eleven grandchildren - Rick (Emily) Hillis, Doug (Karen) Hillis, Shelley (Joe) Tien, Brian Hillis (Kate), Karen (Colin) Steed, Greg (Heather) Morgan, Blair (Angie) Morgan, Scott (Susan) Morgan, Cameron (Esther) Morgan, Todd (Donna) Morgan and Tammy (Sheldon) Kainz; twenty-four great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.
