MICHAEL - Robert "Bob"

Robert "Bob" Michael was born on August 16, 1928 the son of Wallis and Ivy (nee Bowyer) Michael. He attended Marwin School, east of Waldron. When he completed his education, he worked various jobs in southern Saskatchewan. On January 2, 1954, Bob married Olive Eckardt, the wedding was celebrated in 40 below weather! They were blessed with four children, Connie, Karen, Doug and George. The couple began their married life farming in southern Saskatchewan before packing up and moving to Melita, MB in 1962. In 1963, they relocated to Yorkton where Bob worked for Coke/Pepsi as a driver and eventually as Head Bottler. In 1977, Bob and Olive became proprietors of the Waldron General Store. After Olive's passing in 1979, Bob closed up the store and moved to Yorkton in 1980. He then took over as Caretaker of the Parkdale Apartments until his retirement in 1986. Bob was a quiet, kind, compassionate man who cared deeply about his family. Every friend he made was a friend for life. Bob was a hard worker who always put his family first. He loved the outdoors, people watching and travelling. Bob was deeply devoted, took an interest in, and was very proud of all seven of his grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Olive in 1979; his father, Wallis in 1988; his mother, Ivy in 1995 and his sister-in-law, Lorraine in 1997. Survived by his brother Lorne of Melville. He leaves to honour his memory, his daughters, Connie of Winnipeg, MB and Karen (Dan) Jackman of Toronto, ON; his sons, Doug (Shelly) of Grande Prairie, AB and George (Laurie) of Victoria, BC; his grandchildren, Dagny and Whitney Jackman, Derek Seywright, Meaghan and Kristi Miller-Michael and Raymond and Ivy Michael; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many, many friends. Funeral Services were held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Luanne Hrywkiw officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "All Things Bright and Beautiful", "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Amazing Grace". The Urn Bearer was Bob's son, Doug Michael. A private family cremation committal will take place at a later date.
