Joseph Dennis Megyesi, beloved husband to Geraldine (deceased) of 40 years, and present husband to Barbara, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, at St. Peter's Catholic Hospital in Melville, SK. He was 70 years of age. Joseph ("Joe") Megyesi was born on October 14, 1941 in Regina, SK to Gasper and Mary (nee Szepesi) Megyesi. Joe grew up in the Endeavor and Preeceville areas of Saskatchewan. On May 6, 1967, Joseph married Geraldine Poole in Winnipeg, MB. Joe was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #2031) and also involved with Special Olympics and Camp O'Neil. Joe's life was helping people and being involved in the church community. He was a friend to all, bringing warmth to everyone simply by his gentle and loving nature. Although he was employed in the early part of his working life with Transport Canada, Joe was known mainly for his many years of involvement with the Yorkton Catholic School Board. Joe and Geraldine enjoyed 40 years together and leave to cherish his memory, his present wife Barbara; his son Derek Megyesi of Calgary; daughter Karen Megyesi of Calgary; twin sister Elizabeth Bella (Megyesi) of Melville; brothers-in-law Tony (Ruth) Puhl of Lethbridge, AB, Bryan (Delphine) Poole of Hagen, SK and Lloyd (Debbie) Poole of Winnipeg, MB; sisters-in-law Helen Gauthier (Molnar) of Winnipeg, MB, and Lynn (Jim) Atkins of Sarnia, ON; special relatives Barb Vrania, Gerry (Len) Thompson, Margaret (Gord) Thompson, and Doreen (Don) Mitchell; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Gasper and Mary; his previous wife, Geraldine; and brothers-in-law Henry Gauthier and Ernie Bella. The Prayer Vigil was held on Tuesday, December 27 and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 28, both at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. Derek Megyesi did the reading at the prayers and Quinn Haider and Ruth Molnar were the lectors at the Mass. The cross bearer was Zack Halkett, assisted by Gerry Thompson. The pianist, Katherine Flaman led members of St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns, "Here I am Lord", "Psalm 23", "Prayer of St. Francis", "I am the Bread of Life", "Song of the Angels" and "Though the Mountains May Fall". Bryan Poole read the eulogy at prayers and led in the intercessions at the Mass. Members of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2031 participated in an Honour Guard. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Larry Markham, Bryan Poole, Len Thompson, Al Flavel, Glen Wiseman and Bruce Monette serving as the casket bearers.
