MCVICAR - Maurice Bennet. Maurice McVicar passed away in Kelowna, BC on September 13, 2012 at the age of 82. Maurice was born on July 26, 1930 in Portage la Prairie, MB, eldest son of Archie and Elsie (nee Beam) McVicar. Maurice left home as a teenager to begin a long career in retail management. In 1955 Maurice, with his wife Jean and young family moved to Yorkton where he was manager of the Metropolitan Store. He guided the local "Met" through several expansions but still found time to be an active member and president of the Kinsmen Club and an elder at Knox Presbyterian Church. In 1970 Maurice, with family, transferred to Kelowna to manage the "Met" there. He later moved to Kamloops, Edmonton, Elkford and Rocky Mountain House as either owner or manager of a variety of retail stores. Dad kept the fourplex in Yorkton only selling it a few years ago. He retired to Kelowna in 1998. Predeceased by our Mother, Jean McVicar, he is survived by his daughter Maureen (Bob) Koenig of Calgary, their family Scott (Tiffany) and Ryan (Jonquille); son Doug (Suzan) McVicar of Kelowna, their family Calum, Caitlin and Graeme; daughter Carol (Ken) Weslosky of Edmonton, their family Cory, Craig and Kristin; son Neil (Tara Shannon) McVicar of Ottawa. He is also survived by his brother Clayton McVicar. Maurice will be laid to rest in Portage la Prairie. We love you and will miss you Dad!
