Taken swiftly by cancer, April 6, 2012 Barbara Rose Matheson. Survived by her husband Tim Matheson, son Mitch (Jean), mother Pearl Hanowski, siblings, Jan (Scott), June (Kurt), Roger (Barb), and Rodney, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a large and loving extended family. Born Barbara Rose Goebel on November 28, 1958 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville, SK. Barb grew up in Melville, attended school there, married her first husband and had her son there. Mitch was born shortly after Barb's twenty-third birthday in 1979. She moved with her son to Yorkton in 1981. Shortly after she met Tim. They were married at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Yorkton. Barb's working life, as well as her personal life was often about food. While still in Melville, Barb managed the KFC. In Yorkton she worked at Jube's Diner, then purchased it renaming it Barb's on Broadway. She sold the diner in 1994. After Barb's on Broadway she worked several different jobs before she began cooking for seniors at Anderson Lodge. She remained there until the Lodge closed, when she moved to the Yorkton Regional Hospital, first as a cook and then a porter. A people person, Barb always enjoyed the people she worked with. In her private life Barb took joy from dancing, dressing up, especially for Halloween. Christmas was a big time of year for her and her cooking was a big time for her family and friends. Family was of primary importance to Barb. She loved her dogs, despite the fact that neither are the lap dog she requested, fishing, camping, and winning at the casino always brought a grin to her face. A memorial will be held Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 73 Smith St. E. Yorkton, SK. Luncheon to follow, Royal Canadian Legion, 380 Broadway W. Yorkton.
