Harvey Dee Maguire passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Care Home in Melville, SK. Harvey was born on February 1, 1926, the son of Jeremiah "Miah" and Gladys (nee Burrell) Maguire at Shell River, MB. In 1927, the family moved to a farm near Togo, SK where Harvey and his siblings grew up. It was here that Harvey had his beloved team of horses. They were a great source of pride and fond memories for him all through the years. On July 22, 1953, Harvey married Elsie Baumung at Zorra, SK. He worked as an elevator agent for Parrish & Heimbecker at Calder and in several other locations. Then in 1965 Harvey was hired on at IMC Potash Mine and the family moved to Churchbridge, SK. In 1966 Harvey and Elsie built their own home and raised their family of four children, Dale, Doug, Grant and Karen. Harvey lived there until August of 2010 when his health required him to become a resident of the Bethany Way Unit of St. Paul Lutheran Care Home in Melville, SK. First and foremost Harvey loved his family. He liked to make time for a laugh, not only with friends but with all that he encountered throughout his day. Harvey enjoyed spending time outside, tinkering with the car, lawnmower or snowblower and maintaining the yard and garden. His interest in farming always continued and when the opportunity would arise, he would help his brothers-in-law by driving the grain truck or helping out wherever he could. Harvey was always happy to hop in the car and go for a drive whether he was just going to get the mail or on a trip to visit relatives - he put many a mile on his vehicles. Truly, some of Harvey's best times were the many late night card games he and Elsie enjoyed with family and friends. These evenings were filled with much visiting, and of course, the late night lunches that Harvey certainly enjoyed as well - especially the cabbage rolls. Harvey was predeceased by his son, Dale; his parents, Jerimiah and Gladys Maguire; two brothers, Burrell and Bruce; his parents-in-law, Frederick and Karolina "Lena" Baumung; two brothers-in-law, Edward Baumung and Albert Cottenie and his sister-in-law, Florence Maguire. Harvey is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Elsie; his children, Doug (Deb), Grant (Kim) and Karen; his grandchildren, Kelly (Rebecca), Kaleigh (Eric), Karter, Christopher, Shane, Dallas (Tanis) and Andrea (Corey); his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brennyn, Darian, Makayla, Savannah, Rayne, Presley and Autumn; his sisters, Ethel and Kathleen (Gary); his sisters-in-law, Ellen, Minnie and Irma; his brothers-in-law, George, Art, Fred and Bill as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Private Family Grave Side Memorial Service was held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St Mark, Yorkton, SK with Pastor Rik Cherland officiating. Harvey's son, Doug Maguire served as the urn bearer.
