Nick Lushney passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on the morning of Tuesday, October 4, 2016, surrounded by family love. Nick was born April 22, 1945 and raised in Wroxton, SK where he spent his early days on the family homestead prior to his venture North to Thompson, MB in 1964. Until his retirement in 1994, Nick was proudly employed for thirty years as an underground miner with INCO Limited in Thompson. After retiring, Nick and Linda moved to Yorkton, SK. Nick had a profound love for nature and spent countless hours embracing every opportunity he had to enjoy the day fishing or exploring all that the great outdoors had to offer - with Linda by his side. Throughout the years Nick enjoyed adventures to Paint Lake, Setting Lake, Pisew Falls, the Togo Bridge, and days on the farm with his extended family members. When Nick wasn't outside enjoying all that nature had to offer, taking pride in and caring for his yard, having a morning coffee with his friends or in front of the television cheering on Judge Judy and the contestants on The Price is Right or chuckling at the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) performances. He was always game for a round of Solitare or Frustration and loved to dance at every celebration honouring his family and friends. With courage and determination, Nick faced a diagnosis of Lymphoma in 2014. Throughout this journey, he continued to enjoy precious moments with his family and time at his favourite fishing spots, his "Heaven on Earth". Through every obstacle and challenge he encountered, Nick remembered the value of all of his extended family members and special friends. Nick was a man with a quiet and gentle presence that made all feel comfortable in his company. Nick is predeceased by his parents Steve and Nellie Lushney, brothers, Michael and David, and infant sister Irene, who he will be joining. He was also predeceased by his parents-in-law, Bohdan and Rose Storozynsky. Nick will dearly be missed and his memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife and soulmate of 46 years, Linda, children Susan (Doug) Horvath and Kevin (Shannon), and granddaughters Jenna and Kamryn. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers Orest, Johnny, Norman, and Peter (Carol); sisters Mary (Walter), Anne, Jennie, Catherine, and Pauline (Gary); sister-in-law, Sonnia; brothers-in-law Roy (Nellie) and Mervin (Tracy); sisters-in-law Gloria (David), Mary-Anne (Merle), Christine (Jerry), Gaylene (Mervin), Esther (Rick), and Helen (Norm); and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. The Funeral service took place at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Yorkton, SK on Thursday, October 13 with Reverend Father Raymond Lukie C.S.s.R. as the Celebrant and Mr. Ed Pindus as the Cantor. Urn bearer was Orest Lushney. There will be a private family interment at a later date. Charitable memorial Donations can be made to Sunrise Palliative Care or Mass Offerings.
