With sadness, the family of Milbert Lesser announce his passing on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. He was 74 years of age. Milbert was born on May 4, 1937, in his parents' home in the Togo District of SK, the son of Dave and Mary (nee Graff) Lesser. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Togo. Milbert attended Memorial School and after completing Grade Eight, he worked for local farmers and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). In 1960 he met Ethel Brown and the couple was united in marriage on July 5, 1963 in Kamsack, SK. Milbert continued to work as a farm labourer until a decline in his health forced a career change. The family moved to Yorkton, SK where Milbert upgraded his education and then completed classes in the Barbering Trade at SIAST in Saskatoon, SK. He proudly received his Journeyman status on November 25, 1971. This began Milbert's 33 year career in barbering, operating his own shop "Milbert's Barber Shop" in Yorkton, before his retirement in 2004. Milbert loved fishing and camping, together he and Ethel spent many happy hours at Lake of the Prairies. A talented guitarist, Milbert also shared many wonderful evenings with neighbours and friends playing music. Throughout his lifetime, Milbert suffered with many health problems, but dealt each one with courage and grace. Milbert was predeceased by his grandparents; his parents; his sister, Shirley Netterfield and brother, Lawrence as well as his mother and father-in-law, Rich and Dorothy Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ethel of Yorkton; his daughter, Sharon of Medicine Hat, AB; his son, Sheldon of Yorkton; his brothers, Arnold (Emily) and Lloyd (Joanne); his brothers-in-law, Alvin Netterfield and Telf Brown; his sisters-in-law, Noreen Lesser, Jean Schram and Marjory Stooshinoff as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service took place on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home with Reverend Milo Spooner Craig officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock led the congregation in the singing of the processional hymn, "Shall We Gather at the River." The soloist, Norm Graff sang "Softly and Tenderly", and Peter Kobylka and played a violin solo. A cremation committal will take place at a later date.
