Phyllis Lavers passed away peacefully on May 8, 2012 at the Yorkton District Nursing Home, with her family at her side. She leaves to celebrate her life, sons: John Lavers & Joel (Elaine) Lavers; daughter Greer (Garry) Holowatuk. Grandchildren: Jonathan Lavers, Adam Lavers, Matthew (Lindy) Lavers; Bryn Lavers, Keelan Lavers; Madison Holowatuk and Alexis Holowatuk. Companion of many years Jim Bilokreli. Phyllis was born on the family farm Feb. 28, 1937. She was united in marriage with John Lavers in 1957. Phyllis was blessed with six children, losing three children in infancy and childbirth, Shawn, Grant and Edith. Phyllis grieved the loss of her children throughout her life. Phyllis was employed at the Yorkton Regional Health Center, from 1968 to 1995, as a nursing aide. She was actively involved in the Cupe Union, serving on the local executive for many years. Phyllis was president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, being the representative at the Remembrance Memorial Day Ceremonies. Phyllis was active in the Anglican Church, and was on the vestry of the church. Phyllis was always on the go. She loved to garden, bake and crochet. She enjoyed travelling yearly to see her sons and family. She volunteered for years working in-the-Legion kitchen and Anglican church kitchen with catering for special events. She canvassed yearly for the Heart and Stroke. She volunteered every year to work at the fair booth for either the Band Boosters or the Anglican Church. Her companion Jim was an important relationship in Phyllis's life. He shared with Phyllis memorable family events including; her children's weddings, birth of her grandchildren, holidays and seasons. Phyllis spoke fondly of Jim and how blessed and happy she was to have Jim be part of her life. Jim continued to share in Phyllis's life during her lengthy illness. Phyllis found great comfort in knowing Jim was present, frequently visiting her over the years at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Phyllis received thoughtful and excellent care at the Wallace House; she was part of their family, forming bonds with the staff. Phyllis attended many social events at the Nursing Home. Her family spent many Christmas's, birthdays, and graduations at the Nursing Home. Phyllis was always surrounded with people who cared for her. The funeral service was held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton with Rev. Luanne Hrywkiw officiating. Reflections & remembrances of Phyllis were give by grandchildren Madison & Alexis Holowatuk; scripture readings were given by John, Bryn & Keelan Lavers. Organist, Judy Berg led the congregation in the singing of the hymns "All Things Bright & Beautiful", "In the Garden", and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say". Sons John & Joel were the urnbearers. A reception followed in the Parish Hall. The cremation & funeral care was entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
