Edward Laurence passed peacefully on October 18, 2016 after a long battle with heart failure, two months shy of his 86th birthday. Left to mourn his passing is wife Corrie and his blended family of 5 children and 10 grandchildren: Sons Greg Laurence, Gary Laurence (Dawna); daughters Faith Hedley (Willie), Sherry Stafford (Chris) and Michelle Kinzel (Doug); grandchildren Jody, Mira, Parker, Erin, Nichole, Jonathan, Liam, Matthew, Sydney and Megan and his joined-at-the-hip dog, Bunky. During his collegiate years Ed was employed as a professional musician. Following graduation he joined CJGX Radio in Yorkton. He then worked at CKCK Regina, CFRN and CJCA Edmonton. He returned to Yorkton in 1959 eventually entering into partnership to purchase CJGX Radio and eventually CFMQ and CKRM Radio in Regina. He participated and held memberships in AA Assn., Assn. of Broadcasters, Kinsmen Club, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and his most prized personal achievement - obtaining his pilot's licence. From his place behind the microphone in the studios of CJGX, Ed had a rare ability to tell a story and turn a phrase in the most creative and often humorous way. Alone in a studio, through the magic of airwaves, Ed (and his Clarence the Crow) made thousands of Yorkton area residents smile as they started their day. After suffering heart problems in 1984, Ed retired from radio. In 1992 he moved to Peachland and then to Kelowna to enjoy fishing, boating, computer geeking and being Opa to his beloved children and grandchildren. After retirement Ed and Corrie lived a full life and enjoyed Maui, Arizona and cruising the world. By request there will be a celebration of Edward's life with family and friends at a later date on OK Lake, which he loved so much. If desired, donations in his memory made be made to your local SPCA. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting , 250-860-7077.
